A clash in Muksudpur upazila between the residents of Moharajpur and Mochna unions in Gopalganj over a land dispute on Tuesday morning left over 50 people injured.

The six-hour-long confrontation in Moharajpur union was eventually brought under control by the army and RAB (Rapid Action Battalion).

According to witnesses Alamgir Hossain Mia, Adil Molla, and Kamal Munshi, Shawkat Shikdar of Ikdia village, former chairman of the neighbouring Mochna union parishad, reportedly attempted to take control of disputed land and seize government land and construct shops with his men.

Residents of Moharajpur union, including those from Maharajpur, Narayanpur, Lohachura, and Lohair villages, resisted the attempt, leading to a verbal altercation that quickly escalated into a full-blown clash, which involved weapons.

Muksudpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Azizur Rahman and Muksudpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafa Kamal rushed to the scene with police reinforcements to control the situation.

Later additional police forces were deployed in the area.

Local residents said Shawkat Shikdar had been staying in a small house near the UP office for years, which was recently damaged by a fallen tree. When reconstruction began, villagers opposed, claiming the land. This dispute escalated and led to the violent incident.

Some of the injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College, Rajair Health Complex, Madaripur Sadar Hospital and other nearby facilities.

Among the critically injured, four individuals, Monir Shikdar, Rois Shikdar, Delwar Hossain, and Rafiqul Islam are undergoing treatment at Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex.
