3 killed in Savar bus-car collision

Car was travelling in wrong lane, police say

A head-on collision between a car and a long-distance bus in Boliarpur, Savar, left three people dead and two others injured on Monday afternoon.

The deceased were Majibur, the driver and owner of the car, Ibrahim and Nazimuddin, both passengers of the car. 

The injured are Shahabuddin and Abdul Jalil, also passengers of the car. Shahabuddin is undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College in Savar, while Jalil has been transferred to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka.

According to police and locals, as the C-Line Paribahan bus collided with the car, the smaller vehicle overturned and three of its five occupants were killed on the spot. 

Savar highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sawgatul Alam could not confirm the number of deceased but said the car was in the wrong lane when it collided with the bus. 

He added that police are working on the issue and will provide more information soon.

The OC said while the bus involved in the accident has been seized, the driver and the helper have fled. 

Efforts are being made to locate the driver and helper and take legal action against them, he added.
