A sleeping 12-year-old bus assistant was killed when a fire broke out on a Sundarban Paribahan bus in Khulna.
The deceased has been identified as Md Sharif.
The incident took place at the Sonadanga Bus Terminal around 1:45am on Friday.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Balaka of Sonadanga police station confirmed the incident.
Responding to the fire, police and firefighters managed to extinguish the flames.
Sharif’s body has been sent to the morgue at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Sources said Sharif was raised in an orphanage in Sreemangal, Munshiganj.
Md Ferdous Hossain, an officer of the Khulna Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the fire caused an estimated loss of Tk800,000 in damages to the bus.
