Temperature drops to 12.1°C in Panchagarh, the lowest this winter

Number of patients in Panchagarh's hospitals has increased due to cold-related illnesses

Update : 28 Nov 2024, 03:14 PM

The northern district of Panchagarh recorded this winter's lowest temperature on Thursday morning, with the mercury dropping to 12.1°C, as reported by the weather office in Tetulia.

This is a noticeable drop as the lowest temperature on the previous day was 13.3°C.

After the evening, the entire area becomes covered in fog. Along with it, the icy winds from the north make the cold even harsher.

According to the met office, at 6am, the temperature was 12.2°C. Then at 9am, it dropped further to 12.1°C, Meteorologist Russel Shah confirmed.

He said: "Being close to the Himalayas, the cold winds flowing from the northwest have caused the temperature to drop. The temperature may decrease further in the coming days."

Residents of Panchagarh said while the sunny weather during the day provides some relief, the cold at night is unbearable, with people compelled to wear warm clothing after the evening.

Meanwhile, this fluctuation between the warm daytime and chilly nighttime is causing various winter-related illnesses, such as fever, colds, diarrhoea, and respiratory issues, particularly affecting children and the elderly.

Due to these cold-related illnesses, the number of patients in the district's hospitals has increased.

In the outpatient department of Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital, an average of 300-400 patients receive treatment daily for winter-related ailments.

Additionally, around 100 children and elderly patients are being admitted to the hospital daily for treatment.
