Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) are protesting and holding a sit-in at the administrative building, demanding the resumption of construction work on the Fine Arts Department's new building.

On Monday afternoon, students gathered in front of the university's new administrative building under the banner "Conspiracy Against Fine Arts," holding a procession and staging a protest.

They continued their sit-in until the afternoon.

The initiative to convert the Fine Arts Department into a faculty and construct a new building was started, but work has been halted multiple times.

The protesting students said that due to the lack of sufficient classrooms, they are unable to attend classes and exams properly.

The construction of the Fine Arts building began earlier this year, but after a government change, a group of students met with the administration and requested a halt to the construction.

Following this, the university authorities decided to temporarily suspend the construction work during an administrative meeting.

The students are now demanding the immediate resumption of the building work.

Anushua Amin, a 52nd batch student of the Fine Arts Department, said: "Construction of our building was started, but it was stopped due to various issues. We are managing with only four classrooms for all our batches. We have no rooms for practical classes, and we are working outdoors. Our exams have been delayed just because we lack classrooms."
