A Jubo League activist has filed a case accusing 187 individuals, including several top Awami League leaders, of orchestrating and carrying out attacks during the anti-discrimination student movement in Chittagong.

The case was filed on Monday by Jubo League activist Kafil Uddin in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb.

The filing has sparked widespread debate and criticism.

Sources said that Kafil Uddin himself faces three cases, including charges related to arms and narcotics, at Kotwali Police Station, as well as a General Diary (GD) at Anwara Police Station.

He has previously been arrested and jailed on multiple occasions.

Kafil Uddin, reportedly active in Awami League politics, hails from Barkhain Union in Anwara Upazila.

He currently resides in Lane No. 2 of Nandankanan under Kotwali Police Station in city. Local residents claim he is a known follower of Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar, a leader of the Chittagong Awami League.

According to the case statement, Kafil Uddin alleged that he participated in the student-public movement against discrimination at the New Market roundabout on August 4.

He claimed, during the protests, instructions from key accused figures led to gunfire and the detonation of cocktails, resulting in injuries to his hand.

He was subsequently hospitalized.

Kafil said that the delay in filing the case was due to his recovery period and the time required to gather the names and addresses of those involved.

The case include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun, former MPs MA Motaleb and Mujibur Rahman, Jatiya Party's Chittagong Metropolitan City President Solaiman Alam Sheth, former PBI chief Banaj Kumar Majumder, former DB chief Harun Or Rashid, ex-police officer Biplob Kumar Sarkar, former Chittagong Police Commissioner Saiful Islam, and former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Obaidul Haq.

Meanwhile, Kafil Uddin himself faces allegations of involvement in the attack on the student movement.

Earlier, on November 10, a student named Md Raiyan filed a case with Kotwali Police Station against 278 individuals, naming Kafil as accused number 23.

The primary accused in that case is the former Education Minister.

In the complaint, Raiyan alleged that the accused, acting in collusion, attacked protesters and opened fire on students and the crowd gathered in front of the Municipal School in the New Market area on August 4.

Raiyan said that he suffered gunshot injuries to his eye, hands, and legs.

Additionally, 100 to 150 unidentified individuals were named as unknown accused in the case.

Notably, in the case filed by Kafil, Raiyan has been listed as accused number 92.

Repeated attempts to contact Kafil Uddin for his comments were unsuccessful as he could not be reached by phone.
