A case has been filed against 121 individuals, including Mohanpur union parishad Chairman Kazi Mizanur Rahman, for their alleged involvement in vandalism, looting, and arson at the Chandpur residence of Awami League Presidium Member and former minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya.
The case was filed on Monday by Shipon Khalasi, son of Makhan Khalasi from Mohanpur, at Matlab Uttar police station.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Matlab Circle) Khairul Kabir confirmed the development, saying that six individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The arrestees are Arju Sarkar, 40, son of Abul Sakar of Mohanpur, Jewel Pradhan, 37, son of Salamat Pradhan, Nabir Hossain, 25, son of Md Kamal, Sifat, 25, son of Kazi Salauddin, Alamgir Sarkar, 37, son of Arif Ullah and Jiban Sarkar, 28.
The attack took place on Saturday at Maya Chowdhury’s house in Mohanpur, Matlab Uttar upazila. Miscreants vandalized, looted, and set the house on fire.
Police and army personnel, along with the local fire service, promptly intervened and brought the situation under control.
According to police reports, the attackers stole furniture and looted historical commemorative pictures and monuments before setting the property ablaze.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Matlab Uttar police station Rabiul Haque said that the arrested individuals have been sent to the Chandpur court, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
