Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League's Vice President and former acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, Asadur Rahman Kiran, has been detained by the 49th Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Jessore while fleeing to India.
BGB-49 Commander Lt Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui confirmed the matter through a press release on Tuesday.
On Monday at around 11:30pm, he was detained from the Shikarpur border area in Sharsha Upazila, Jessore.
BGB officer Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui said that members of the battalion on duty at the Shikarpur border received intelligence about certain individuals attempting to cross into India illegally. Based on this information, BGB members conducted an operation in the Betna area near the Shikarpur border at night.
During this operation, Asadur Rahman Kiran was detained.
He further informed that during interrogation, Asadur Rahman Kiran revealed that he had made a deal with Nur Nabi, a member of a human trafficking ring from Ramchandrapur village of the district, to cross the border into India for a sum of Tk 1 lakh.
A case has been filed against the detainee at Sharsha police station in Jessore.
