Khulna University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim on Sunday inaugurated a water corner on campus named after Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, who was shot dead during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The event, organized by the English Discipline, took place on the second floor of the Kabi Jibanananda Das Academic Building, where he cut the ribbon as the chief guest.
In a brief speech, the VC said: “Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, a student and akin to our child, left us too soon. Just as he did, we all will one day leave this world, leaving behind only the marks of our deeds. During the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Mugdho’s selfless act of providing water to the thirsty protesters, despite being shot, is a memory that cannot be forgotten."
“His final words, ‘Paani lagbe paani?’ continue to resonate in our hearts.”
He added: “When we honour someone, we too are honoured and become better individuals. Mugdho’s contributions to the new generation’s freedom are unparalleled. This water corner is dedicated to preserving his memory. I sincerely thank the English Discipline for this initiative and encourage other disciplines to undertake similar efforts.”
A prayer session was later held at the event, seeking blessings for the souls of Mugdho and other martyrs of the movement, as well as the recovery of the injured.
