Workers of the Beximco Industrial Park once again blocked the Chandra-Nabinagar road in Gazipur on Sunday to demand the payment of their unpaid salaries for October.
The road blockade began at 9am, causing traffic disruptions and significant congestion on both sides of the road, affecting commuters.
The workers, along with the industrial police, reported that the Beximco Industrial Park in Gazipur houses multiple factories, including garment factories, and employs approximately 40,000 workers.
The company is required to pay a total of Tk80-82 crore in monthly salaries.
Since the recent protests following the student movement, workers have repeatedly staged protests to claim their dues.
The protest had initially started on November 15, but resumed again on Saturday when workers blocked the road.
Local and industrial police have been trying to convince the workers to end the blockade.
The protesting workers expressed frustration, saying that they are forced to protest each month to receive their wages.
They emphasized that they will continue their protests and road blockades unless their salaries are paid on time.
Beximco Industrial Park, owned by former Awami League MP Salman F Rahman, has been struggling to pay its workers due to financial difficulties that arose after Rahman’s bank accounts were frozen following his arrest.
Since then, the company has been unable to pay salaries on time.
