A fire incident occurred due to a short circuit in the female residential hall of Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NSTU).
The incident took place at 3:30am on Wednesday night in room 306 of the Bibi Khadiza Hall. Two students were injured when they tried to evacuate in panic. As a result, the ongoing term final exams of all departments have been postponed.
It is reported that the fire broke out in the electricity meter box on the ground floor of Bibi Khadiza Hall. At that time, the female students evacuated the hall in a state of panic. Due to the smoke, two students fell ill. They were later treated at Noakhali General Hospital.
A student, who preferred to remain anonymous, mentioned: "Students in the hall use various electronic devices like electric ovens, heaters, and induction cookers. Due to the use of these devices, short circuits are occurring in the halls from time to time."
Regarding the incident, Dr Mamun Or Rashid, the provost of Bibi Khadija Hall, said: “The situation is currently under control. The two injured students have been kept in the hall after receiving treatment. The electricity department is currently working to restore the connection, and we hope to resume it soon.”
