Former US President Donald Trump’s victory in the 60th US presidential election inspired an unusual celebration in Gopalganj’s Kashiani Upazila, where a group of young men gathered for a festive feast of beef bhuna and khichuri.
The event took place Thursday night at the home of Md Gias Uddin Galib in Hoglakandi village, Maheshpur Union, with around 250 participants.
The celebration arranged by Lutfor Rahman Himu, a US-based expatriate and national finance member of the Republican Party, who sponsored the event.
Galib shared that Himu, originally from Morrelganj, Bagerhat, is a friend of Trump’s son, Eric Frederick Trump.
“Our friend Himu had promised a feast if Trump won the election:” Galib said.
“After Trump’s victory, he sent funds for the celebration, and we organized the khichuri feast, which included guests from Hoglakandi and surrounding villages.”
Local youth, excited to participate, enjoyed the evening of food and camaraderie. “This is the first time we’ve celebrated a US presidential win like this,” said Tuhin Molla, a young participant from Hoglakandi. “We enjoyed the food together in a joyful atmosphere.”
The feast ran from 9pm to 10:30pm, with guests served on disposable plates in a festive setting.
Wahiduzzaman, assistant head teacher at Jaynagar Girls High School, said: “Galib is known for his community initiatives, from boat races to special gatherings. This celebration, supported by his friend Himu, was another memorable event.”
