He was appointed on Tuesday

Update : 01 Nov 2024, 03:28 PM

Controversy erupted following a photo of Kaimul Haque Rinku, the newly appointed public prosecutor of Comilla, alongside former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, went viral on social media.

The photo, which surfaced shortly after his appointment on Tuesday, has ignited discussions and debates within the Comilla courts.

Kaimul Haque Rinku, who gained attention from the viral image, is the brother of former mayor and expelled BNP leader Monirul Haque Sakku, and serves as a senior lawyer in the Comilla court.

In the photo, Sheikh Hasina is seen to the right of Monirul Haque Sakku, with Sakku's wife, Afroza Jesmin Tikli, to his left, and Kaimul Haque Rinku standing in front of them. Three other individuals are also visible on either side, all wearing SSF cards around their necks.

The appointment of Rinku as the PP of Comilla was confirmed in a notification signed by Sana Md Mahroof Hossain, deputy solicitor (GP/PP) of the Solicitor Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

Safiul Alam Raihan, a BNP leader in Kotwali, said: "It's unfortunate that those who sacrificed during tough times are not valued, while those who benefit are given more privileges."

AHM Taifur Alam, a senior lawyer and former district PP of Comilla, said: "They are the political beneficiaries of Comilla. Can you imagine how lucky they are? During the Awami League government, his brother became the mayor. Everyone in Comilla knows about their relationship with the Awami League. But look, they are benefiting again. However, I think the ministry is not aware of the photo. If they were, this would not have happened in any way."

Meanwhile, attempts to contact lawyer and new PP Kaimul Haque Rinku via mobile phone went unanswered, and he did not respond to text messages from Dhaka Tribune.
