A clash between two factions of the Chhatra Dal has left at least 40 leaders and activists injured in Sonagazi upazila in feni.
The injured have been admitted to Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex and Feni General Hospital.
The clash occurred for an hour in Sonagazi municipal area on Wednesday evening.
Police and military personnel later intervened with batons to restore order.
The conflict arose following an attack on two Chhatra Dal leaders of Sonagazi College by members of the on Chhatra League on Monday.
During the clash, several Chhatra Dal leaders, including Masud, Saddam, Jisan, Rafiq, Jasim, Masum, Osman Goni, Samrat, Jihad, Maruf, Shahin, Ramim, Shobuj, Kajol, Selim, Shubho, Nur Nabi, Mishuk, Rimon, Rinku, Dawood, Nur Alam, Enayet Ullah, Rashedul Hasan, Noman, Azizul Haque, Kamrul Islam, Yousuf Robin, and Nur Alam were injured.
Both factions have held press conferences blaming each other for the violence.
On October 28, members of the Chhatra League attacked Chhatra Dal leaders Mehedi Hasan Miraj and Raihan on the campus of Sonagazi Government College. Following this incident, a section of the Chhatra Dal leaders have accused the senior joint convener of the upazila Chhatra Dal, Mejbah Uddin Piyas.
On Tuesday afternoon, a protest rally was held by factions of the Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and BNP.
Later that night, Mehedi Hasan Miraj's mother, Khadija Begum, filed a case against seven individuals, including Mejbah Uddin Piyas, while 10-15 unidentified persons were also named as accused.
In protest against the case against Piyas, members of the upazila Chhatra Dal led by Secretary Nur Al Sohan organized a rally.
When their rally reached Kashmiri Bazar Road, they were confronted by supporters of another faction led by senior joint convener Rafiqul Islam.
This confrontation escalated into a clash, with claims from Rafiq's group that they were attacked during the rally.
On the contrary, Nur Al Sohan accused Khurshid Alam, the convener of the upazila Jubo Dal, of orchestrating an ambush on their activists.
Khurshid Alam Bhuiyan, the upazila Jubo Dal convener, said via mobile phone that he was in Dhaka for business and was unaware of the clashes.
Rafiqul Islam, the senior joint convener of the upazila Chhatra Dal, asserted that his group had been unexpectedly attacked during the rally.
Kamruzzaman, the officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Model Police Station, confirmed the occurrence of the clashes between the two groups.
