Update : 27 Oct 2024, 02:50 PM

In a recent incident at the Gaibandha Deputy Commissioner’s Office, 22 individuals were detained for acting as proxy candidates during the oral examination for office assistant positions.

The irregularities were detected when discrepancies emerged between the handwriting of the written exam papers and those who appeared for the oral test.

The recruitment board, which began the oral examination at 2pm on Saturday, identified these differences.

Among the 226 candidates who qualified for the oral phase, 36 were absent.

Md. Shariful Islam, deputy director of Gaibandha’s Local Government Division and a member of the recruitment board, confirmed the incident, stating that the detained individuals confessed to acting as proxies for the real candidates.

Officials suspect that an organized group might be behind this fraud.

The recruitment process, initiated on May 25 by former Deputy Commissioner Kazi Nahid Rasul, aims to fill 55 office assistant positions in the revenue section of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

The positions, which require SSC and HSC qualifications, attracted 3,722 applicants for the written exam, held across various educational institutions in the district, with 226 advancing to the oral phase.
