A leader of the Dhaka University (DU) unit of the recently banned Chhatra League has been arrested from Brahmanbaria's Sadar upazila.
The arrestee is Zahidul Haque Shuvo. He served as the DU unit's deputy sports affairs secretary.
He arrested on Friday morning just two days after the government issued a ban on the Awami League's student wing.
Md Mozaffar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of the Sadar Model police station, reported that Shuvo was arrested in the Talsahar (East) union area of Sadar upazila.
The arrest follows his involvement in several cases, including those related to murder and explosives, which were filed at Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station and Shahbagh police station in Dhaka.
The police statement further identified Shuvo as a fourth-year student in the Social Science Department at DU, previously residing in Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall.
He had been implicated in allegations of leading and actively participating in attacks on students during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
OC Mozaffar confirmed that Shuvo will be presented before the court following his arrest.
