At least four workers were injured during a clash between police and garment factory workers in Ashulia.
The incident occurred around 11am on Wednesday in the Bangla Bazar area of the Narashinghapur-Kashimpur road in Ashulia. The injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
According to workers, employees of the Generation Next garment factory had gathered in front of the factory, demanding three months' unpaid wages and the reopening of the factory, which had been shut down.
The protesting workers then proceeded to nearby factories—Sigma Apparels, D-Sun, Susuka, G-Max, and Shin Shin—to bring out workers and join the protest. When they attempted to block the road, law enforcement officials intervened, leading to the clash.
Enraged, the workers started throwing stones at the police, resulting in a confrontation in which four workers were injured.
The injured workers are identified as Halima Khatun, Bobita Akter, Morsheda Khatun, and Chompa Khatun. Among them, Halima Khatun is a worker from Susuka Garments, while the others are employees of Generation Next Fashion.
Sarwar Alam, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Industrial Police-1, confirmed these details.
The workers of Generation Next garment factory had blocked the Nabinagar-Chandra highway in the Baipail area from 9am on Monday until 4:45pm on Tuesday, demanding their due wages.
They were eventually forced to leave the road after the police used water cannons. Before leaving, the workers vandalized at least 50 vehicles on the highway.
