The local administration has imposed Section 144 due to two factions of the BNP calling rallies at the same place and time in Sagarikandi union of Sujanagar upazila of Pabna.
Section 144 has been enforced in four potential locations within the union.
According to Sujanagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mir Rasheduzaman Rashed, the ban is in effect in Sagarikandi Bazaar, Khalilpur, Shyamganj, and Talimnagar from 12pm to 12am on Monday
It is reported that two groups, led by Abdus Salam Mollah, a member of the upazila BNP's convening committee, and local Jubo Dal leader Tarikul Islam, have called rival rallies in Sagarikandi Bazaar, creating tension in the area.
There have been multiple instances of clashes between these groups in the past due to the demand for the resignation of the Awami League government.
Abdus Salam Mollah is associated with BNP's central Krishak Dal's president, Hasan Jafir Tuhin, while Tarikul Islam is connected to former MP Selim Reza Habib of the Pabna-2 constituency.
Mir Rasheduzaman Rashed stated: "We are not sure about the BNP, but we have learned that two factions have called for a rally there. Just two days ago, there was a clash-like incident. The groups have not informed the police according to regulations about who is organizing the rally, which has created a local complication, posing a threat to public safety, hence the enforcement of Section 144."
Local Jubo Dal leader Tarikul Islam mentioned: "We had previously informed the administration about our rally demanding the withdrawal of false cases against BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman and an end to extortion in the area. However, today the administration has imposed Section 144."
On the other hand, Abdus Salam Mollah, a member of the upazila BNP's convening committee, claimed: "We were the first to inform the police that we would hold a rally there. Then they called for a rally. Now the administration has imposed Section 144."
