Update : 19 Oct 2024, 06:27 PM

Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) has formed a committee to resolve disputes between the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS).

The committee will submit its report within 10 working days, identifying the reasons and making specific recommendations for settlement of the dispute.

This information was conveyed through a notification issued on Saturday.

According to the notification, the electricity system is at risk due to the existing dispute between the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS).

The agitated officers-employees of PBS stopped the electricity supply of 60 out of 80 rural electricity societies on Thursday. As a result, rural electricity consumers are suffering.

There is a public fear that a large number of electricity consumers in the country may suffer from an even worse situation at any time.

In view of this, the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) has formed a Citizens Committee to resolve the dispute.

The committee consists of M Shamsul Alam, president of the National Consumer Complaints Redressal Committee, Dhaka University Professor Badrul Imam, DU Professor MM Akash, Jahangirnagar University Professor Sharmind Neelormi and Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua.
