Joint Forces on Tuesday night arrested an individual over his alleged involvement in inciting RMG unrest in Narayanganj.

The arrestee has been identified as Hamid alias Pagla Hamid.

He is a close associate of former MP Shamim Osman’s nephew Azmeri Osman.

He was arrested from Fatullah in Narayanganj Sadar upazila.

Hamid has long been accused of various crimes, including inciting unrest in the garment industry in Narayanganj, involvement in the garments scrap trade, and firing on the student movement. Particularly after the change in the Awami League government, he had been secretly continuing his criminal activities.

Shariful Islam, officer-in-Charge of Fatullah Model police station, said that a special team of police and army, acting on a tip-off, carried out the operation in Fatullah and arrested Hamid.

Hamid has six cases against him, including charges of murder, extortion, and disruption of public safety. He is also involved in creating unrest in the garment sector, he added.

Following the political shift on August 5, former MP Shamim Osman, Azmeri Osman, and their followers fled Narayanganj.

Azmeri Osman is accused in the murder case of Tanvir Muhammad Twaki, a student from Narayanganj.
