The Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Md Nahid Islam, on Saturday stated that media outlets that have collaborated with the fascist government in the context of the anti-discrimination student movement will face trial.
"Several cases have already been filed, and a few individuals have been arrested. Additionally, those found to be involved in the investigation will also be brought under the law for trial," said Nahid.
He made these remarks while speaking to journalists after landing at Saidpur Airport on his way to the 16th founding anniversary ceremony of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur on Saturday morning.
Later, during the anniversary event, Nahid Islam expressed: "Fascist forces, having been defeated on the streets, are spreading many rumors on social media platforms like Facebook. False information is being disseminated through fake accounts. They are trying to demonstrate their power online."
He urged the public not to believe their false information and rumors.
The Information Advisor said: "Our fellow protester, martyr Abu Sayed, was a student at Begum Rokeya University. He sacrificed his life fighting for justice on this campus. We are enjoying independence in exchange for that blood. Abu Sayed became a martyr while fighting against inequality. We will always stand by the university to resolve all of Abu Sayed's issues; it will never be neglected."
He continued: "Now we are in the government as representatives of the students. From that responsibility, I have been invited to the university. I feel very fortunate to be invited to the anniversary of Begum Rokeya University. On this day, I deeply remember martyr Abu Sayed and all the martyrs and wounded of the July Revolution."
"We want to take an oath on this anniversary—that we will carry forward the aspirations of the mass uprising for which Abu Sayed and others sacrificed their lives."
He emphasized that Abu Sayeed will always be remembered as a leading figure by the student community of Bangladesh.
Earlier, on the occasion of the university's anniversary, the Information Advisor inaugurated a beautiful gate worth Tk3 crore.
He also participated in a joyful rally with the students.
Subsequently, a discussion session was held.
At this time, when Abu Sayed's father, Mokbul Hossain, arrived at the event, the Information Advisor stood up and gave his chair to him. The advisor handed over a crest to Mokbul Hossain on behalf of the university, which also honoured him.
The university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Shawkat Ali, along with teachers and students, were present at the event.
