After a long hiatus, tourists have flocked to Kuakata beach in Patuakhali.

Since Thursday afternoon, the number of visitors has increased at various points along the beach.

The four-day government holiday for the celebration of Durga Puja has brought vibrancy back to the coastal town of Kuakata.

Motaleb Sharif, General Secretary of the Kuakata Hotel-Motel Owners Association, said: “After a long time, tourist activity in Kuakata is increasing. If the political situation stabilizes and transportation systems normalize, we will have year-round tourism in Kuakata.”

He added: “Our workload has increased after a long time. I hope we will continue to see such scenes in the coming days.”

During a visit, from the Zero Point of Kuakata and extending for about a kilometre, it was found that tourists were enjoying themselves.

Some were found diving into the sea, while others were swimming in groups.

To capture the joyful moments, many are taking photographs.

However, some visitors expressed disappointment at the poor condition of the beach.

They said: “What a beautiful beach, yet it is in such a terrible state. Geo tubes and geo bags are scattered everywhere. It’s hard to appreciate the true beauty amidst all this.”

Tourist Hasan Mahmud Mia said: “This is my first visit in Kuakata. The beach and the waves have truly impressed me. However, the litter of geo tubes and geo bags has ruined the beauty of the beach.”

With the increase in visitors, all restaurants and tourism-dependent businesses in Kuakata have become busier.

Hotel and motel officials reported good bookings in their establishments.

Mentioning that the presence of tourists is bringing relief, and they hope that if this trend continues, they will quickly recover from their previous difficulties.

Abul Kalam, the General Manager of Best Southern Residential Hotel, said: “During the extended holiday, our residential hotel is fully booked. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen such a flow of tourists in Kuakata. We always prioritize their needs.”

The arrival of tourists has increased sales for businesses along the beach, and the overall activity has intensified.

Tea vendor Sohel said: “Since on Thursday, a noticeable number of tourists have been coming to Kuakata. Sales are increasing. I hope to recover from the losses.”

Camera operator Jahangir Alam said: “Tourists started arriving in decent numbers on Thursday, and on Friday the numbers are rising. We will be able to overcome our challenges.”

Snack vendor Jashim Musalli added: “Tourists aren’t buying much now; they just come and go. However, sales have increased compared to before.”

Md Selim, a manager at a seaside restaurant, mentioned: “Business was terrible in the past. Sales were good on Thursday, and I expect them to increase further on Friday.”

Anwar Uddin, Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Tourist Police in Kuakata, said: “We are fully prepared for the safety of the tourists. With the ongoing instability in the country subsiding, the number of tourists in Kuakata is increasing.

“We will take all necessary measures to ensure their safe travel,” the SP added.
