BGB detains four for illegal border crossing in Satkhira

The Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has detained four individuals, including three women, while they were attempting to illegally cross from Bangladesh into India via the Keragachhi border, Satkhira.

The detained individuals are Md Saiful Munshi, 35, Akhi Akter, 27, Laki Akter, 25, and Papia Khatun, 24.

The incident occurred around 10:30am on Thursday. All individuals are confirmed to be Bangladeshi nationals.

In a press release, Lieutenant Colonel Md Ashraful Haque, director and commander of the 33 BGB battalion in Satkhira, said that the operation was conducted based on confidential information.

The team, led by Subedar Nasir Uddin and Naik Kazi Hurmuz Ali, intercepted the group while they were being trafficked into India. The traffickers fled upon noticing the BGB's presence.

Arrangements are being made to hand over the detained individuals to the Kalaroa police station for legal proceedings. A case is also being filed against five fugitive members of the trafficking ring.

In a separate incident on the same day, three Indian cattle were seized at the Chanduria border in Satkhira.
