Miscreants have vandalized 20 houses in Kashiani Upazila of Gopalagnj over supremacy.
Local people said the incident took place in Khayerhat village at around 6:30am on Monday.
Police detained a man named Abdullah Molla, 35, from the spot during the attack.
According to locals, Kashiani Sadar Union Parishad (UP) Member from Ward No. 1 Abu Jafar Shikder has a long-standing dispute with former UP member Badiuzzaman Batu.
On Saturday night, some supporters of Batu allegedly attacked and hacked one Arif Shikder, identified as a supporter of Jafar.
In retaliation, the supporters of Jafar carried out attacks on houses belonging to supporters of Batu on Monday morning. At the time, the attackers were carrying locally-made sharp weapons.
The attackers also looted valuables, electronic items, and cash during the attack.
Later, army personnel from the nearest camp along with police from Kashiani and Muksudpur police stations reached the scene and brought the situation under control.
Md Shafiuddin Khan, officer-in-charge of Kashiani police station, confirmed the incident. He said they detained a person for questioning.
