Two Bangladeshi fishermen have been abducted by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) from the border in the Charghat upazila of Rajshahi.

They were taken along with an engine-driven boat from the mid-water boundary of the Padma River.

The BSF later handed over the two fishermen to the police.

In response to this incident, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has sent a proposal for a flag meeting with the BSF.

However, as of Friday evening, no response has been received for the meeting.

The two abducted fishermen are Manik Uddin Sheikh, 35, and Moazzal Hossain Sheikh, 40, from the Muktarpur village in Charghat upazila.

After being taken from the mid-water boundary of the Padma River, they were handed over to the police at the Sagarpara police station in Murshidabad district, West Bengal. Although they were taken from Bangladeshi waters, they have been accused of illegally crossing into Indian territory.

Reports indicate that they have been sent to Lalbagh jail in Murshidabad.

Lieutenant Colonel Matiul Islam Mondol, commander of BGB-1 Battalion in Rajshahi, stated that the fishermen were fishing within Bangladeshi waters in the Padma River on Wednesday.

However, due to the strong current, their boat drifted several hundred yards into Indian waters.

As a result, a patrol team from the Kakmari border outpost under BSF-73 detained them and subsequently handed them over to the local police.

Upon learning of the incident, a proposal for a flag meeting was sent to the BSF, but no response has been received yet. The officer mentioned that necessary steps will be taken if they respond.

Previously, on the evening of October 2, the BGB-1 Battalion members detained two Indian nationals for illegal entry from the same border in Charghat.

After their arrest, the two Indians were handed over to Charghat police and subsequently sent to Rajshahi Central Jail on October 3.
