In separate operations by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Satkhira, five individuals have been detained, including two human traffickers.

They were detained from the Padma Shakhra and Hijaldi borders under the command of the 33rd BGB Battalion on Friday.

The arrestees have been identified as brokers Mohammad Jasim Uddin, 38, and Bilal Hossain, 23, and one Nur Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, 39.

They were detained around 3am from the Padma Shakhra border.

Meanwhile, at around 4am on the same day, BGB detained two Bangladeshi citizens while they were illegally crossing the Hijaldi border in Satkhira.

The detainees are Moushumi, 34, and Mohammad Mamun, 33.

The Director and Commander of the BGB-33, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ashraful Haque confirmed the matter at a press conference on Friday.

He said they received a tip-off that Bangladeshi citizens would be illegally trafficked into India from the area known as Shamsan, located 50 yards inside Bangladesh from Border Pillar 2/1-S of the Padma Shakhra BOP.

Upon receiving this news, a team went and arrested the three individuals who arrived on two motorcycles.

He added that during preliminary interrogation, the detainees admitted to their intentions of illegally traveling to India.

Quoting locals and individuals from the detainees’ permanent addresses, the BGB commander stated that the arrested individuals were involved in drug trafficking as well.

The detainees have been handed over to Satkhira Sadar police station for trying to illegally cross the border.
