Police recovered the body of a young man, the brother of a Jubo League leader, from an under-construction drain in the Battala Bazar area of Barisal city on Wednesday.
Sub-Inspector HM Sajal of Barisal Kotwali police station said the deceased, Mohammad Momin Mia, 32, was the son of Abul Khair Dhalu Mia, a resident of the Ruiar Pole area in the city.
Momin was the younger brother of Shahidul Islam Munna, the Jubo League convener for Ward No. 18 of the city.
Momin left home on Tuesday night, and the next morning, his body was discovered in an under-construction drain on Abdur Hamid Mia Road, near Bot Tola Bazar.
The body was then sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
The police official said it is believed Momin fell into the drain due to excessive drug consumption and was unable to get up.
Jubo League leader Munna said there were no signs of injury on the body. "We suspect he may have died of a heart attack.
An autopsy will be conducted, and if the report suggests foul play, a case will be filed," he added.
