8 injured in Kushtia BNP infighting

  • Two groups led by Upazila BNP president and general secretary
  • Upazila BNP General Secretary Rahmat Ali Robban admitted to hospital

At least eight people were injured in a clash between two groups of the BNP in Mirpur, Kushtia.

Among the injured, Upazila BNP General Secretary Rahmat Ali Robban has been admitted to Kushtia General Hospital in critical condition.

The clash took place on Tuesday afternoon at Mirpur Bazaar.

It has been reported that the clash erupted between the group of Rahmat Ali Robban, and the group of Khandaker Tipu Sultan, former chairman of Fulbari Union and president of the Union BNP, over a dispute concerning dominance.

Among the injured, Rahmat Ali Robban, 55, Abdus Salam, 45, and Chanchal, 30, have been admitted to the General Hospital.

Additionally, Mirpur Municipal BNP General Secretary Ibrahim Ali, 49, Mohammad Ali Jihad, 27, Sumon, 35, and Altaf Hossain, 45, have been admitted to Mirpur Upazila Health Complex.

Mirpur Municipal BNP General Secretary Ibrahim Ali, who is currently undergoing treatment at the Mirpur Upazila Health Complex, said: "Seven of our leaders and activists, including my elder brother and nephew, were injured."

Tausifur Rahman, a doctor at the Mirpur Upazila Health Complex, said: "Four individuals have been admitted to the Upazila Health Complex following the clash. They have sustained injuries to various parts of their bodies, but it appears that they are out of danger."

Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge Mostafa Habibullah said that the clash occurred at Mirpur Bazaar on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in injuries to three people.

Among them, Upazila BNP General Secretary Rahmat Ali Robban's condition is serious. The situation is currently under control, and no arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident, he added.
