Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that there will be no clemency for anyone attempting to disrupt law and order.

He announced the formation of a high-powered investigation committee to probe recent violent incidents after discussions with colleagues, emphasizing the importance of a thorough investigation.

Speaking to the media after a high-level meeting with representatives of various political parties and dignitaries in Rangamati to control the situation, he urged everyone to assist law enforcement and the administration to improve order.

He also stated that those who disturb peace will face severe consequences.

Adviser to the Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Ministry, AF Hassan Ariff, remarked that there are conspiracies from external parties to incite disturbances, and a strong investigation committee will be established to bring those responsible to justice.

During the meeting, several officials, including the adviser for the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Supradip Chakma, and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammad Moinul Islam, were present.

Meanwhile, following the communal violence, all forms of transportation in Rangamati have been halted since morning in protest, with Section 144 imposed in the municipal area. Shops are closed, and law enforcement patrols have been intensified in key areas.

Meanwhile, a 72-hour transport strike has been called by hill students in three districts, leading to a complete blockade of roads and waterways.

All forms of public transport in Rangamati are currently halted, causing a standstill in the city.

In response to the situation, police and army patrols have increased their presence throughout the area.

It’s worth noting that the communal clash in Rangamati, triggered by incidents in Khagrachhari’s Dighinala, has resulted in one death and 53 injuries, alongside vandalism of vehicles and attacks on places of worship.
