Newly appointed Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Barisal Mohammad Delwar Hossain on Wednesday visited the family of Abdullah Al-Abir, who was martyred during the July uprising in Dhaka.
At 12 noon, the Deputy Commissioner visited the residence of Abir's maternal uncle on Gorachand Das Road in the city, where he met Mizanur Rahman, Abir's father.
Abir was raised in this house from his boyhood, although their ancestral home is in Chinnarkathi village, under the Babuganj upazila of Barisal.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner became emotional upon hearing the details of Abir's death. He also inquired about the family's well-being, offering financial support and presenting a fruit basket to Abir's father.
The Deputy Commissioner expressed his commitment to standing by the family of the martyred student at all times. He also noted that Abir grew up in the capital and studied at North South University.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mandeep Gharai, Assistant Commissioner Abu Zafar Majumdar, and other officials accompanied the DC during the visit.
After the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Delwar Hossain said that the government would continue to support all families of martyrs from the student movement.
"The names of 30 martyrs from Barisal district have been listed so far. I will visit all the families and try to help them according to the government's decision," the DC said.
He also mentioned that the list of martyrs from Barisal district has already been submitted to the ministry. The government is working to rehabilitate and support the families, and efforts are underway to implement these decisions.
Abdullah Al-Abir, 24, was shot dead in Dhaka’s Baridhara area while protesting on July 19. He succumbed to his injuries on the morning of July 20 while undergoing treatment.
