Three people, including a woman, were electrocuted in Porahati’ Surapara village, Jhenaidah, on Monday morning.

The deceased were Angar Ali, 60, his sister-in-law Hasina Khatun, 55, and his nephew's wife Reshma Khatun, 40.

Jhenaidah Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Shahin Uddin said police were dispatched to the scene.

Tanveer Hasan, an officer at the Jhenaidah Fire Station, said: “Due to storms and rain over the past two days, a papaya tree in the backyard of farmer Angar Ali's house had fallen. On Sunday night, Angar Ali went to fix the papaya tree and got electrocuted by a wire.”

He added that when he did not return home that night, his family started looking for him. On Monday morning, Hasina Khatun and Reshma Khatun found Angar Ali lying on the ground and attempted to rescue him.

During this, they too were electrocuted and severely injured. Upon receiving the news, the Fire Service rescued the injured and admitted them to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital. They died while undergoing treatment, he added.
