Over two million people in Noakhali, including residents of the municipal area and eight upazilas, have been waterlogged for over a month due to the flash flood last month.

While floodwaters began receding last week, heavy rain from the ongoing depression since Friday evening has worsened the situation, turning post-flood waterlogging into another flood.

Most roads and homes are once again submerged, heightening fears among those already affected.

On Saturday, a visit to various parts of Noakhali revealed that low-lying areas have been flooded due to heavy rainfall. Homes and roads are submerged, and many residents are preparing to seek shelter. Those already in shelters are uncertain about returning home.

According to Rafiqul Islam, the acting officer of the district’s meteorological office, 124mm of rainfall was recorded in Maizdi over the last 24 hours, as of noon on Saturday.

Meanwhile, rivers and the sea remain turbulent due to the depression. From Friday evening to Saturday morning, 10 fishing trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal and Meghna River estuary. So far, 112 fishermen have been rescued, with many still missing.

In Jahajmara Union of Hatiya, one person died after being crushed by a tree while inside a CNG auto-rickshaw. The victim’s identity has yet to be confirmed by authorities.

According to the district administration, approximately 1.15 million people across 87 unions in Noakhali’s eight upazilas are currently waterlogged.

Hatia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shubhashish Chakma said: "Due to adverse weather conditions, around 10 trawlers have capsized, with over 30 fishermen still missing. Hatiya is currently cut off from the mainland, with no communication or transportation possible."

Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Ishtiak Ahmed said: "Continuous rainfall due to the depression is worsening the situation in Noakhali. We have received reports of one death in Hatiya due to a fallen tree and several fishermen missing after trawler accidents
