A fishing trawler with 10 fishermen aboard capsized due to rough weather at the mouth of the Bay of Bengal near South Dhalchar in Bhola’s Char Fashion, leaving seven missing while three were rescued by fellow fishermen.

The incident occurred on Friday, around 5:30pm as the trawler was returning to Dhalchar Ghat after fishing.

Hit by turbulent waves, the vessel lost control and sank.

Following the accident, rescue efforts began immediately, confirmed by the trawler's owner. The identities of the missing fishermen are yet to be confirmed, but they are believed to be residents of Dhalchar and Char Manika unions.

According to local fishermen at Dhalchar Ghat, the trawler, led by Akhtar Majhi and carrying 10 fishermen, set out for fishing on Thursday morning.

After two days at sea, the trawler was caught in high waves on its way back to shore and sank at the estuary. Although three fishermen were rescued, the remaining seven could not be located.

Abdus Salam Hawlader, the owner of the trawler, said that after hearing about the accident, three trawlers from Dhalchar Ghat were dispatched for a rescue mission.

Char Fashion Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Maruf Hossain Minar said that he had not yet been informed of the incident but was gathering details.

Commander Md. Sanowar Hossain of the Char Manika Zone Naval Contingent stated that they were unaware of the event but would launch a rescue operation after further investigation.
