A scuffle broke out between two groups of students during a meeting organized by coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Chittagong University (CU) on Sunday.
The incident occurred at around 2pm in the auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, sources said.
The meeting, organized by the CU Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, aimed to address the concerns of general students.
During the session, students raised questions regarding the committee formed in Chittagong on August 5 and the lack of university activities since the fall of the government.
At one point, Sakhawat Hossain, a postgraduate student from the Department of Islamic Studies, spoke on behalf of the coordinators, stating: “Our coordinators were our place of trust and confidence. Those who now claim to lead the movement were once close associates of Sheikh Hasina and friends of criminals.”
Sakhawat’s remarks triggered anger among the students, leading to a scuffle and commotion.
Some students claimed they were being accused of having ties to the Awami League for questioning the actions of the movement coordinators, which raised further tensions.
However, the situation was eventually brought under control following the intervention of coordinator Hasnat Abdullah.
