Nursing students from Faridpur district staged a sit-in protest on Sunday, demanding action against the recruitment of unqualified and unregistered nurses at private hospitals and clinics.

The protest comes in response to reports of patients being endangered due to untrained individuals being hired as nurses, leading to frequent accidents in healthcare services.

The students, from both public and private nursing colleges in the district, gathered in front of the Faridpur Civil Surgeon’s office Sunday noon, calling for an end to these irregularities.

They claim that many private hospitals and clinics are being allowed to operate without proper oversight due to corruption among some employees at the Civil Surgeon’s Office, which is compromising patient care.

The protestors presented their concerns to Deputy Civil Surgeon Shah Mohammad Badruddoja, but after receiving no satisfactory response, they locked the office gate and continued their protest on the road in front of the office.

Earlier in the day, the group had marched from Faridpur Medical College to the Civil Surgeon’s Office.

Khandaker Moin, Adnan Sami, Sohan Fuad, and Neera Khandaker spoke on behalf of the protestors, addressing the media and highlighting the extent of healthcare disruptions caused by untrained staff.

They expressed concern that genuine nurses are being denied job opportunities, while unqualified individuals are posing a threat to patient safety.

“Healthcare is being severely disrupted in Faridpur, and most of the clinics and nursing homes are employing fake nurses,” said one protestor.

The students also criticized the lack of accountability, claiming that despite raids and temporary closures of clinics found to be operating with irregularities, these establishments are often reopened within two days without any lasting consequences.

The protesters made it clear that they had previously raised these concerns with the civil surgeon, but no action had been taken. They declared they would not leave until the problem was solved.
