Ahsan Ali, a member of Lakshmirchar Union Parishad and a leader of the Awami League, was hacked to death by assailants in Jamalpur.
According to local residents, Ahsan Ali had been elected three times as the member of Ward No. 3 of Lakshmirchar Union Parishad and had an ongoing dispute with rivals.
On Saturday afternoon, while returning home from a council meeting, Ahsan Ali was attacked and severely injured by his opponents in the Rayerchar Mollapara area.
He succumbed to his injuries later that night after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Jamalpur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Mohabbat Kabir said that a murder case will be filed in connection with the incident.
