The workers of Square Pharmaceutical have blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway with 21-point demands including salary increase, job stabilization, and two-day weekend.
The workers of Square Pharmaceuticals in Borjhar area of Kaliakoir have been protesting by blocking the highway and setting fire to tyres since 6am on Saturday.
Under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Labor Rights Movement, the workers of Square Pharmaceutical participated in the movement by observing 21-point demands.
The workers said they will not return to work until their demands are met. The factory officials fired them only when they raised their fair demands.
In the movement, hundreds of factory workers were seen protesting, chanting slogans.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Golam Morshed Khan of Gazipur Industrial Police said at 9:30am that the workers of the factory blocked the highway and protested for various demands including salary increase. Dhaka and Tangail bound passengers suffered as the traffic was halted on both sides of the highway.
