Auditor, husband jailed for concealing wealth information

The case was registered at Kotwali Police Station under Barisal Metropolitan Police

A Barisal court on Thursday sent two persons to jail for acquiring illegal wealth and giving false information.

Judge Mehdi Al Masud of the Barisal Divisional Special Judge's Court sent auditor Shahnaz Parveen and her husband to jail, the bench assistant, Abul Bashar, confirmed.

Shahnaz was sentenced to five years imprisonment in two sections and fined Tk41 lakh and she will have to serve another nine months imprisonment in default of the payment. 

Besides, Shahnaz's husband, Mahfuzur Rahman, has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined Tk20,000. In default of the payment of the fine, Mahfuzur will have to serve another three months in prison. 

The Accounting Office Auditor of Bhandaria Upazila, Shahnaz Parveen, is a resident of Paschim Aura village of Kathalia Upazila in Jhalokathi district. Shahnaz's husband is Mahfuzur Rahman, is a resident of the same village.

Court bench assistant Abul Bashar said Shahnaz Parveen concealed information about Tk12.6 lakh in the wealth statement submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission on July 27, 2017. 

Then she also gave false information regarding another Tk34.23 lakh. 

As a result, Assistant Director of the Barisal District Office of ACC Abul Hasem Kazi filed a case against Shahnaz on August 6, 2018. 

The case was registered at Kotwali Police Station under Barisal Metropolitan Police. After an investigation, the police submitted a charge sheet to the court on September 15, 2019, against Shahnaz along with her husband Mahfuzur.
