‘Won’t take 15 seconds to finish off journalists’

Chittagong student coordinator Rafi claims journalists exaggerated news about resignations

Update : 18 Aug 2024, 05:26 PM

A key coordinator of the student protest at Chittagong University (CU), Talat Mahmud Rafi, has threatened to "finish off" journalists within 15 seconds if they exaggerate news.

He said this while reacting to the news of the resignation of a coordinator and four co-coordinators on Saturday.

A video of his statement has already spread on social media.

Rafi claimed that the journalists had exaggerated the news about the resignations.

Warning journalists Rafi said: "We warn you, if you try to exaggerate, remember you are nothing to us. It will not even take 15 seconds… (to "finish off" journalists). When there were no journalists, just a few media outlets broadcasting our news, the movement was still ongoing. So many have been killed, yet the movement continued."

He further said: "Do not think (journalists) that spreading these will save you. You will not be spared either. I will finish it in exactly 15 seconds."

On Friday, amid allegations of discoordination among the coordinators, one coordinator and four co-coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at CU held a press conference and resigned.

They are coordinator Sumaiya Shikdar and co-coordinators Dhrub Barua, Al Mashnoon, Saiduzzaman, and Isha De.

They accused the central coordinator Mohammad Rasel Ahmed and co-coordinator Khan Talad Mahmud of imposing decisions on them.
