A young man has been sent to jail following his arrest on Friday night after he threatened his Facebook friend with a semi-automatic stolen pistol for reacting “Ha Ha” to his Facebook post.

The incident took place at Senbang in Noakhali.

The arrested individual is identified as Monir Ahmad, 22.

Sub-Inspector Mozammel Hossain of Senbag Police Station confirmed the matter.

He said: “A few days ago, a relative named Kaiyum had left the weapon with Monir Ahmad to sell. On Friday afternoon, based on a “Ha Ha” reaction to a Facebook post, Monir took the pistol from his home intending to shoot someone.”

When a local youth named Piyas witnessed the act, he informed the police.

Following this event, the police filed a case under the Firearms Act on Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, he was produced before the court seeking a five-day remand in a case filed under the Arms Act.

After the hearing, the court ordered to send him to jail after fixing a date for remand.

Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Asaduzzaman said: “During preliminary interrogation, Monir disclosed that his neighbour and relative Kaiyum had kept the weapon with him to sell. The weapon was looted from a police station in Dhaka, where Kaiyum had directly participated in the looting.

“A regular case has been filed in Senbag police station regarding this incident, and efforts to arrest the fleeing suspect are ongoing.”
