A case has been filed at Bochaganj police station against Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, ex-state minister for Shipping, along with 24 leaders and activists, and 75 unnamed accused related to an attack on the student protest.
Bochaganj Upazila Chairman Afshar Ali was arrested and sent to jail on Saturday, with a remand petition through the court in this case.
Bochaganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakkar Siddique confirmed the arrest.
Earlier in the day, Faisal Mostak, upazila coordinator, filed the case for involvement in an attack on a students' protest on July 18.
In a separate incident, Upazila Chairman Afshar Ali attempted to file a case against students at Bochaganj police station on August 16, accusing them of attacking his house and business establishment.
Upon hearing the news, students surrounded the police station, demanding his arrest and resignation from the chairman's position.
The situation was defused with the intervention of the army, after which Afshar Ali announced his resignation.
