Murder case filed against ex-MP Nizam Uddin Hazari

A murder case was filed on Tuesday against former Awami League lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari and around 400 of his party members in connection with the death of an auto-rickshaw driver in Feni on August 4, during the student-led non-cooperation movement.

The former lawmaker of Feni-2 constituency, has been named as the primary accused in the case.

The victim's elder brother, Md Yusuf, filed the case this morning at Feni Model Police Station, according to a correspondent from Feni.

Among the other accused are Feni Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shusen Chandra Shil, Feni Sadar Upazila Awami League President Karim Ullah, and Feni Municipality Mayor Nazrul Islam Swapan Miazi, according to police reports.

Farid Manik, the personal secretary of Nizam Uddin Hazari, who was detained at the Akhaura border on Monday while attempting to flee the country, has also been arrested in connection with the case, said Muhammad Ruhul Amin, the officer-in-charge of the police station.

Sabuj, the auto-rickshaw driver, was killed when a group of Awami League members allegedly opened fire on protesters in the Mohipal area of Feni, along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, on August 4, the first day of the student-led non-cooperation movement.
