The Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (BAPEX) has discovered gas at four levels while drilling a well in Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali.
Md Asaduzzaman, in charge of drilling the Begumganj-4 (West) valuation well, confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
The well drilling, which began on April 29, was completed ahead of schedule.
Now, each layer of the well will undergo testing to determine the extent of the gas reserves.
The official hopes to deliver "good news to the nation" after the testing is complete.
