Update : 12 Aug 2024, 05:26 PM

Thousands of people in Gopalganj have formed a human chain and staged demonstrations protesting the recent torture on minority communities in different parts of the country.

They have also presented an eight-point demand.

The human chain and protest rally was held under the banner of the ‘religious minority community’ on Bangabandhu Road in front of the city's Press Club on Monday afternoon.

District Puja Udjapan Parishad President Mrinal Kanti Roy Chowdhury, former president Dr Asit Kumar Mallick, and others spoke at the occasion.

Speakers said that recent torture on minority communities, vandalism of temples, attacks on houses, and business establishments, extortion, looting, and arson are being carried out across the country.

They demanded immediate investigation into the incidents and arrest and bring the culprits to justice.

Although the demonstration was supposed to start at 11am, by 10:30am, hundreds of people from 68 unions and four municipalities of five upazilas of the district gathered at Sarbojanin Kendriah Kali Bari. They had black clothes tied on their heads.
