A student who sustained injuries during the unrest after Sheikh Hasina’s downfall succumbed to injuries in Feni.
The deceased was identified as Abidul Islam Abid, 18.
He died while under treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) early Saturday morning.
Daganbhuiyan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Abul Hashim confirmed the matter.
According to local sources and the family, on August 5, after Sheikh Hasina's downfall, a girl living in Nizam Tower adjacent to Swapan Hotel in the Daganbhuiyan area was beaten by the landlord, Nizam Uddin, when she raised the national flag of Bangladesh on the building's roof.
Hearing her screams, Abid's father, Jahangir, tried to rescue her.
During the time, Nizam, his brother Jashim Uddin who is a former president of the Pouro Shromik Dol, along with building employees Manik and Bahar and their group, assaulted Jahangir.
Later, when he came forward to save his father, Abid was hit on the head with a stick. He fell unconscious on the ground.
Locals rescued him and initially took him to the Daganbhuiyan Upazila Health Complex.
Due to the severity of his condition, he was then transferred to Feni General Hospital and later to CMCH. He died there around 8am on Saturday.
The OC said the body would be sent to the morgue at Feni General Hospital for an autopsy.
