Following the resignation and departure of Sheikh Hasina from the country, incidents of attacks and vandalism have occurred in the homes and businesses of minority communities in Faridpur's Madhukhali and Sadarpur upazilas.
An attack took place at the house of village doctor Uttam Kumar Roy, 45, a resident of Bamundi village in Meghchami union of Madhukhali.
The doctor's pharmacy and Kali temple at his house were also vandalized. The incident occurred around 8pm on Monday.
District doctor Uttam Kumar Roy said he was at his medicine shop in Bamundi Bazar around 8pm when a mob of 18-35-year-olds came to assault him.
Earlier, the assailants vandalized the shop of homeopathy doctor Manoj Kumar Biswas, 44, in the market and beat him.
Uttam Kumar Roy also said that when the attackers came to harm him, Meghchami Union Parishad Chairman Sabbir Ruddin Sheikh and Madukhali Sugar Mill Workers Union President Shahin Mia rescued him and took him to his home.
He then went into hiding with his family. During this time, the assailants attacked his house, vandalized, and looted it.
Idols in the temple at his house were broken. They vandalized the temple and other items, including fans, and later ransacked his drug store in the market.
Expressing his frustration, he said: "Who will I ask for justice for this?"
In Bhagat Bazar area of Bhagat Union, a cloth shop owned by Archana Bose was set on fire.
The shop is located on Bhagat-Naopara road.
The house of school teacher Sanjay Kumar Das in Sitarampur village of the union was also vandalized and looted.
The attack also targeted Rajkumar Misthanna Bhandar shop in Bhagat Bazar. However, as the shop was closed, the attackers could not enter.
Additionally, a flour mill owned by Biplab Sahar near Madukhali-Naopara road was attacked and vandalized.
In Hat Krishnapur market of Sadarpur upazila, Subir Kumar Sahar's pharmacy and Tarun Sahar's grocery store were attacked and vandalized on Monday night.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur Yasin Kabir said that the army has been deployed in Faridpur. Cases of assault and vandalism are being investigated.
