Jessore witnessed a powerful peace march on Sunday, spearheaded by local MP Kazi Nabil Ahmed, aimed at combating terrorism and militancy.

The rally, which drew leaders and activists from the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League, featured strong vocal opposition against extremist elements.

The march commenced with participants raising various slogans to denounce terrorism and militancy. The procession assembled at the Bangabandhu mural in the heart of Jessore city before marching through important areas, gathering support from Awami League and allied organizations from across Sadar Upazila.

This demonstration comes amidst a nationwide anti-discrimination student movement, which has seen a rise in non-cooperation protests.

In Jessore, BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami activists had earlier taken to the streets with local weapons, prompting a swift counter-mobilization by the Awami League in the afternoon. The large-scale procession, which proceeded through various city streets and concluded at Manihar, was marked by chants against Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP, and militant groups.

Prominent figures in attendance included AKM Khairat Hossain, Vice President of Jessore District Awami League; SM Afzal Hossain, Organizing Secretary; Abdus Sabur Helal, Labour Affairs Secretary; Advocate Abu Salim Rana, Agriculture Affairs Secretary; Faruqe Ahmed Kochi, Information and Technology Affairs Secretary; and several other key leaders and union council chairmen.

The rally underscored the unified stance of local leaders against violence and extremism, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
