8,700 sued in 3 cases over violence, killing police in Khulna

Some 8,700 unidentified people have been accused in three separate cases including police killing in Khulna.

Out of this, 1,000 to 1,200 people have been accused in the police murder case, 5,000 to 7,000 people have been charged in connection with vandalism, obstructing government work and police injuries, and 400 to 500 people in the case of setting police vehicles on fire.

According to police sources, the police fired 1,731 rubber bullets, 190 tear gas and 101 sound grenades to control the incident on Friday.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Md Mozammel Haque said that three cases have been filed separately with three police stations in connection with the killing of a constable named Suman Gharami, the burning of a police car, vandalism, and injury to the police.

CCTV and video footage are being watched to arrest the real accused in all these incidents.

The process of identifying the accused is going on by scrutinizing at the CCTV footage of the police beating.

He said the police fired rubber bullets to disperse the protesters. Police were not injured. But while returning after controlling the incident, policemen were beaten up and killed and injured.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Labonchara police station, Momtazul Islam said that a case has been filed against 1,000 to 1,200 people, including five names of unknown people, in the death of police constable Suman Kumar Gharami in the beating of the agitators.

No accused has been arrested.

Sub-inspector Mustafa Saqlain filed the case as the plaintiff.

Video footage of the incident is being scrutinized. The police operation is being conducted to arrest the real accused. The video footage of Suman being beaten to death is being watched. Efforts are on to identify the accused, said the OC.

Suman Gharami was killed and 20 policemen were injured in sporadic clashes from afternoon to evening on Friday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Haritana Police Station Monirul Islam said that a case has been filed against 5,000 to 7,000 unknown persons in connection with creating sabotage, obstructing and injuring government work. No arrests have been made in the case, the police said.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Sadar Police Station Md Kamal Hossain said that a case has been filed against 400 to 500 unidentified people in connection with the police prison van being set on fire. No one has been arrested so far.
