Lalmonirhat man strangles wife to death on highway

A man killed his newlywed wife over a marital dispute in Lalmonirhat sadar upazila. The accused Jaydev Barman, 23, choked his wife Lima, 19, to death with a scarf on the roadside of Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway on Tuesday night. Jaydev has been arrested by Lalmonirhat sadar police after Lima's father Nimai Chandra Roy filed a case on Wednesday. Police arrested the accused and produced him before the court on Wednesday where he gave his confessional statement. According to the case statement and the victim’s relatives, Jaydev and Lima got married six months ago after being together for some time. However, their marital life did not go as smoothly as their dating life and they would often have fights. They quarrelled frequently and at one point, Lima left home when she found the conditions unbearable, the sources added. Lalmonirhat sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam said: "On Tuesday night, Jaydev went to Lima’s aunt’s house in Putmari, where she had been living for last few days, to bring her back home. On the way back, Jaydev strangled Lima to death by the Lalmonirhat-Burimari Highway. When we found the, Jaydev was passed out on top of Lima." The OC said that they were both taken to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital they conducted an autopsy and gave Jaydev primary treatment. The hospital also found scratches on Jaydev's wrist. Afterwards he was handed over to the police. Later, Jaydev was sent to jail after being presented at Lalmonirhat chief judicial magistrate’s court.
