A student from the American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) has died after jumping out of a bus window to escape a robbery in Bogra.
The deceased, identified as 21-year-old Sanjida Akter Sharna, jumped from the moving bus when hijackers took control in front of a restaurant in the Dhankundi area of Sherpur upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
Later, following a raid, police recovered the bus and arrested the hijacker Rony Mollah, 25.
Kamal Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Sherpur police station, and Abul Hashem, inspector of Sherpur Highway police, confirmed the matter.
Sanjida, a resident of Bogra town and a first-year student of the university, was returning home due to university closures prompted by the anti-quota movement.
Her body was sent to the Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Rezaul Karim Reza, officer-in-charge of Sherpur police station.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no cases have been filed over the incident.
